What this shows
- Electricity and gas output grew 12.3% in August 2026 (quick estimate), against 8.0% for industry as a whole.
- On the new 2022-23 base it grew 5.2% in 2024-25 but only 0.8% in 2025-26.
- Output fell in five months since April 2024, most sharply in October 2025 (-7.0%) and May 2025 (-5.1%); it grew more than 10% in May, June and August 2026.

Source and method
What exactly is measured
Year-on-year growth in the 'Electricity & Gas Supply' sector of the all-India Index of Industrial Production (base 2022-23=100, weight 10.865%). MoSPI moved IIP to the new 2022-23 base in June 2026; growth on the new base starts in April 2024, and figures from the old 2011-12 series are not comparable, so they are not shown. The latest month is a quick estimate and is revised in later releases.
