What exactly is measured

Average monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) of households in rural India, in rupees at current prices, from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey. These are the usual NSS estimates, without imputing the value of items received free through welfare schemes (with imputation: ₹4,247 in 2023-24). HCES 2022-23 and 2023-24 use the same method; older rounds used different questionnaires.
