What exactly is measured

Rainfall over the country as a whole during the southwest monsoon season (June to September), as a percentage of the long period average (LPA) of 87 cm for 1971–2020, from the India Meteorological Department's end-of-season statements. Before 2022 IMD measured against an older average (88 cm, 1961–2010), so those years are not shown.
