What exactly is measured
Gross enrolment ratio at the secondary stage (classes 9 to 12, the NEP 2020 school structure): enrolment in those classes as a share of the population of the matching age group, from UDISE+. Enrolment of over-age or under-age pupils counts, so it is not the share of teenagers in school. UDISE+ has collected student-wise data since 2022-23; the ministry says figures from 2022-23 on are comparable with each other but not with reports up to 2021-22, so earlier years are not shown.
