Source and method
What exactly is measured
Maternal mortality ratio: maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births, from the Sample Registration System of the Registrar General of India. A maternal death is a woman's death while pregnant or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy from a cause related to the pregnancy. Maternal deaths are rare, so each figure pools three years (2022-24 covers 2022, 2023 and 2024); the 95% confidence interval for 2022-24 is 78 to 95.
