- The Centre's capital expenditure was ₹10,51,953 crore (₹10.52 lakh crore) in 2024-25 (Actuals), up from ₹3,35,726 crore in 2019-20.
- As a share of GDP it rose from 1.7% in 2019-20 to 3.2% in 2023-24 and 2024-25 (Budget at a Glance 2026-27 chart).
- 2025-26's Revised Estimate, ₹10,95,755 crore, is below its Budget Estimate of ₹11,21,090 crore; the 2026-27 Budget Estimate is ₹12,21,821 crore.

What exactly is measured
Union government capital expenditure (spending on the capital account: assets, loans and investments), in lakh crore rupees. Only Actuals are shown, each read from the Budget at a Glance published two years later. Budget 2022-23 noted that 2021-22 capital spending (Revised Estimate) included ₹51,971 crore of capital infusion and loans to Air India's holding company for past liabilities not backed by assets.
