What this shows
- MGNREGS generated 230.6 crore person-days in 2025-26, its last full year, down from 290.7 crore in 2024-25 and well below the pandemic peak of 389.1 crore in 2020-21.
- The scheme guaranteed 100 days of unskilled manual work a year to every rural household that asked; in 2024-25 households got 50.2 days on average and women did 58.1% of the work.
- From 1 July 2026 it was replaced by the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G), which guarantees 125 days; its figures are not comparable and are not added here.

Source and method
What exactly is measured
Person-days of work generated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in each financial year, in crore, from the Ministry of Rural Development. This is a closed series: MGNREGA was repealed and the VB–G RAM G Act, guaranteeing 125 days, came into force on 1 July 2026, so 2025-26 is the last full year. Each year is taken from the latest Ministry document that reports it; the scheme's MIS keeps adding late entries after a year closes.
